Paul Powell, MFA, From Autistic to Awesome, Lawrenceville, Georgia

Paul M. Powell is a speaker, blogger, and the Author of “From Autistic to Awesome: A Journey of Spiritual Growth through Life with My Special-Needs Child”. Paul received his Master of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Following his early career as a full-time artist and teacher Paul transitioned to a career in business working for a Fortune 500 company, in which he holds a Project Management Professional Certification.

Though he has spent most of his professional life in the corporate world, Paul’s love and passion is for God, family, and service to others. He has led adult and youth ministries as well as taught in community programs. It was while doing this type of work that he met and married his wife Sonya.

Less than two years after Paul and Sonya were married, their son Matthew was born. In the months following his third birthday, Matthew was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. It was during the next four years of caring for Matthew’s special needs that the story told in “From Autistic to Awesome: A Journey of Spiritual Growth through Life with My Special-Needs Child” unfolded.

Paul and Sonya currently live in Atlanta with Matthew and their daughter Jaida.
